Cleaning a Mass Airflow Sensor on a VW Golf M Gt TDI. How to fix the MAF Mass Air Flow Sensor on a Volkswagon Jetta. This quick little video will tell you what tools you will nee and how to make it work like new!DIY for Jetta, Golf, GTI, Passat, New Beetle, Aon cleaning or replacing the MAF (mass air flow) sensor. Step-by-step pictures, part numbers, and tools required for the job. Before I go on, let me tell you that VW uses several types of Mass Air Flow Sensors (also known as Air Flow Meters), for the most part they can be divided into two categories.
One type has male spade terminals and the other has male spade terminals.
How to Clean a Mass Air flow Sensor (MAF)
All modern VW, Audi, and TDI use a MAF to help measure air flow. A MAF sensor is one way of directly measuring how much air is passing the MAF sensor and into the engine. The mass airflow sensor (MAF) measures the amount of air entering the engine. The OBD-II code P01is set when the signal from the mass air flow sensor is out of expected range, or in other words, the MAF sensor doesn't work properly.
Poor or faulty air mass sensors can cause numerous problems without even setting a check engine light. Typically owners do not notice the decrease in performance driveability or fuel economy till the problem gets really noticeable. The mass airflow sensor (MAF) is used to measure the amount and temperature of air that is entering the engine at any one time. The mass airflow sensor senses the total amount of air passing the sensor and allows the fuel injection system to adjust the fuel mixture to compensate for cold weather and/or high altitude conditions.
