Car manufacturer reliability rankings

The Consumer Reports 20Car Brand Report Cards ranks automakers across the world by reliability, road test performance and other factors. For the second year in a row, Lexus topped the list, nearly matched by Mazda, and followed by Toyota and Audi. Only a day after Consumer Reports looked at vehicle reliability, J.D. Power and Associates examined how owners rate the quality of their cars after three years of ownership and reached the same result: Lexus was first and Fiat was dead last.Consumer Reports, including the change from last year. I have been a car dealer, an auctioneer, and part-owner of an auto auction over the past years. During that time, I have seen a lot of easily detectable patterns between those brands that have truly stood by their promise, and those that were merely giving lip service.

Kia is becoming a staple on this reliability list. Unfortunately, Kia’s repairs and repair costs were both up, with average price jumping 5% from $3last year. Driver Power survey and the IS saloon has come out on top in the reliability field this year. It’s a compact executive car that goes up against the BMW Series, Audi A Jaguar XE and Mercedes C-Class, but it lives up to its Japanese reputation for good reliability with the highest score of all brand-new cars on sale. According to CarM the South Korean brand topped the rankings by boasting the lowest repair frequency and the second-lowest overall repair cost.


On average, repairing a Hyundai included in CarMD's survey cost just $a figure that edged out nearly every other automaker.The CarMD Index offers an annual ranking of manufacturers and vehicles using statistically-based “check engine”-related failures and repair costs. These rankings are based on a combined average rating of fewest “check engine”-related problems and lowest repair costs for vehicles needing repairs over the past year.

Car Brands to Buy And to Avoid From Consumer Reports

Japanese manufacturers, about half -- are from Toyota and its Lexus division and eight are from Honda. The two domestic models making the list are the previous generation Chevrolet Monte Carlo (redesigned for 2006) and the new-for-20Mercury Mariner.
