The first step to repairing a power window switch is to make sure it is the switch that is at fault. While the switch is the most likely culprit, it is not the only component that can go bad in the power window circuit. The most common power window mechanism is pretty basic. There's a simple regulator mechanism, usually similar to the mechanism used on garden-variety hand-cranked windows.
Before you can replace a broken window regulator, you have to remove the door trim panel and the moisture barrier. See the previous article for complete instructions on how to remove those components. Need we say more? Each switch consists of two pieces of metal that come together to make an electrical connection between the door harness and the power window motor.
The problem? We live in a climate with constant blowing dust and debris that blocks and destroys those connections over time.
Electric Window Troubleshooting - Clark's Garage
Do you feel something different from one switch to another? If you’re not getting a click or electrical actuation, or you feel sponginess under your finger, your power window switch could be bad. There is an aftermarket part on the market for the Dodge Nitro, but it won’t fit the vehicle.
Locate the window switch panel. This is the button used to operate your window. Power window regulators will always have some type of electric motor attached to them that is controlled by a power window switch on the door panel or console. In many cases, an inoperable window motor can be replaced separately from the window regulator itself.
