Volume keys on keyboard not working windows 8 dell

I have a windows toshiba laptop and i dont know what happened but my volume keys and all the keys at the top like brightness up and down and airplane mode stopped working. I installed all the updates toshiba gave me for but nothings happened.

I have a psmouse and keyboar both plugged into a USB adapter. Just unplugged the USB adapter and replugged it in and the keys work normal again.

I just bought a new Windows ASUS laptop two days ago, and I really like it.

In most dell laptop (e.g. Studio 1Inspiron 1Inspiron 3Inspiron N50etc) the F1-Fkeys at the top of the keyboard are dual function with Multimedia/OEM keys such as volume and screen brightness etc.

When I turned it on today the keyboard was not working. I installed avg anti virus software yesterday so I thought this might have something to do with it.

The more I started working with other keyboar the more I wanted to have this ability to map other keys across my keyboar but working with the Hex numbers and having too look up scan codes could be painful.. hence SharpKeys.
