There actually is a delete key on portable Macs: Fn-Delete. Thanks Bryan for the great tip! Option and Command keys where standard PC keyboards have Alt and Windows keys. The keyboards are otherwise. Many laptops add rows of smaller keys above the Function key line to add keys on a non-standard size keyboard. On this row of smaller keys, the position of the Delete key is positioned at or near the right-hand end.
On most Mac keyboards the Delete key works as Backspace in Windows. To make it work as Windows Delete key you need to press Function (Fn)+Delete.

Keys on other keyboard layouts might not correspond to the keys on a U.S. keyboard.
It performs the same function as a Backspace key on Windows though - so far so good. The Delete key on my Windows machines (usually Del since it's a small key) doesn't exist on my MacBook. Apple (s aapl) actually does build a forward delete function into its notebook keyboards, although it requires pressing a modifier key. If you have a GSeries or newer PowerBook, iBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook or MacBook Air, you can delete the character to the right of your cursor by pressing fn-Delete (function-Delete). Mac keyboar the quickest fix for this problem is to open Microsoft Word and select Preferences from the Word Application menu.
In Preferences turn off overtype mode in the Edit category.
Using the Delete Key on a Mac Adding a Forward Delete Button
In Windows Control-Alt-Delete will bring up the security window allowing you to change users and lock the computer, among other things. There are a few hot-keys on the Mac that can perform the same functions.
