I have Windows OS. For some time now ( maybe since the last update ), The top bar has been missing from my display, so I have no minimise or close buttons. I lost my X button on the upper right. This happened to me before about two years ago.VLC would remain open after I killed the stream within the GUI. Which would leave a copy of VLC open as I closed or picked a new stream.
That VLC pretty much plays everything that you throw at it is old news. It is also a media genie when it comes to other things apart from playing movies.

I am having a problem with vlc on xubuntu which is vlc sometimes does not exit after I pressed the close button on the window.
Firefox closing unexpectedly, or closing after an error dialog (e.g., the Mozilla Crash Reporter) appears. The left side of the window contains the Toolbar Elements, which allows users to fully customize exactly which buttons are shown in the toolbar or toolbars (both in window and fullscreen mode). To the right are representations of the toolbar or toolbars. Screen Mode in OS X Yosemite, and the green button will also get apps out of Full Screen Mode in OS X Yosemite.
Just be sure to move your mouse cursor near the top of a full screen app to access the buttons.
